MACRO is presenting a selection of paintings and drawings by the Irish artist at MACRO FUTURE. The exhibition is a joint venture with the Fundacio Joan Miró in Barcelona and the Musée d’Art Moderne in Saint Étienne.

If painting still has a reason to exist - writes Danilo Eccher - in a world of contemporary art in which languages and forms of expression multiply out of control, it is thanks to artists like Sean Scully.
Scully was born in Dublin in 1945 and lives and works in New York and Europe. He has exhibited at the world’s leading contemporary art museums and foundations, including the Museum of Art – Carnegie Institute – in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the Whitechapel Art Gallery in London, Palacio Velazquez in Madrid and the Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus in Munich. The MACRO FUTURE exhibition is Scully’s second solo show in Italy after the one curated by Danilo Eccher at GAM, Bologna, in 1996.
