NAHUM TEVET

Tevet explores the territory where contemporary art and architecture intersect, creating complex structures from minimal designs. The apparently chaotic assemblies, made from pieces of furniture and of materials treated with coloured paint, appear unstable, though, in reality, they are built in accordance with rigorous principles of geometry.

From his initial work in the 70’s and 80’s, focused on the expression and rational transposition of the assembly logic, Tevet gradually moved on to the creation of large-scale installations, in which the observer can note a number of starting points for the creation of the artist’s subjective journey through the imagine sections of the structures brought into being.

The sculptures have “bounds”: they are always physical objects that can be encountered, another object in the world, and one of the things I try to do is change an object that is present, real and tangible into a fact that carries you away from this physical dimension, from the place in which you find yourself, while proposing an alternative site and reality (Nahum Tevet).
The installations consist of multiple junctures, as if they were labyrinths, with a series of suggested starting points that provide perspectives and paths of flight which are never the same. Found along this exploratory quest are familiar materials and components, intimate spots that personalise the experience inside of the common space. Indeed, the crux of Tevet’s searching is the relative positioning of the work of art and the individual within the collective space.
